Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract description

_Cinnamomum zeylanicum_ bark extract, also known as _Cinnamomum verum_ bark extract, comes from a tree known as “true cinnamon” that is native to Sri Lanka. Studies find that cinnamon bark extract has a number of positive attributes for skin, primarily in its antioxidant capabilities and its ability to soothe skin. It also has antimicrobial properties. The typical use level for this bark extract is 0.5–5%. On the flipside, though, is the fact that cinnamon bark extract also contains volatile fragrance compounds, among them eugenol and cinnamaldehyde. Both are known to cause allergic reactions, especially for people with sensitive skin. While not as bad as the essential oil that comes from the bark, the extract can still cause issues. Because of this mixed bag of benefits and risks, we recommend opting for a soothing antioxidant that doesn’t come with the potential of sensitization – and there are many available!
