Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract description

Pisum sativa (pea) extract is the Latin name for the garden pea. It has documented antioxidant ability thanks to its natural content of ellagic acid, beta-sitosterol, gallic acid, and quercetin. These antioxidant properties help reduce factors within skin that lead to redness and other signs of sensitivity. It is also classified as a skin-conditioning agent. When used in higher amounts in cosmetics, the starch portion of peas can help to thicken products; however, generally it’s used in much lower amounts for its antioxidant and skin-calming benefit.
