Quercus Robur (Oak) Root Extract description

_Quercus robur_ (oak) root extract is a plant-derived skin care ingredient taken from English oak trees used for its antioxidant and astringent properties. This oak tree’s root extract contains flavonoids and phenolic compounds, both of which have antioxidant benefits, helping protect skin from pro-aging environmental aggressors, like pollution, that cause damage. However, this extract also contains tannins, a group of powerful antioxidants that also denature the proteins on skin’s surface, which can lead to a compromised skin barrier. Please note, this extract differs from the more researched _Quercus robur_ (oak) bark extract as it’s derived from different parts of the same tree. This ingredient isn’t usually used alone, but within ingredient blends.
